Starting July 1, 2022, The US Passport Office will only be accepting check and money order for passport services.

Business or vacation taking you abroad?  Come visit our certified U.S. Department of State as a Passport Acceptance Facility located in Blacksburg, VA, on Virginia Tech's campus.  Our site offers the products and services needed for a first-time passport and renewal passport applications. Visit us on the first floor of Squires Student Center. Our services are offered for both the Virginia Tech community and the general public.

Passport Applications (U.S. Department of State)

*Passports issued to minors up to age 16 cannot be renewed. Minors must use the first time application to apply for a new passport.

For passport appointments, please call 540-231-9844 or email SECLPassports@vt.edu with a contact number and time to be reached. Appointments will be a half hour per application.

Requirements

  • Passport Check-list & Information
  • Completed DS-11 passport application, filled-out in black ink
  • Photo: 2x2 with a plain white or off-white background, on photo paper
  • Proof of citizenship (birth certificate, certificate of naturalization, previously issued passport, etc.)
    • NOTE: All documents must be a certified or original copy
  • Proof of identification (Driver's license, offical U.S. military ID card, government employee ID card, etc.)
  • One check or money order for each application made out to the U.S. Department of State (application fees below)
  • Check or money order to the Treasurer of Virginia Tech (Only one check or money order is needed if paying the execution fee for multiple applications)
  • Completed form DS-11 passport application
  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship (one of the following)
    • A certified copy of U.S. birth certificate (must include parents' names; birth cards not accepted)
    • Certificate of naturalization
    • Expired passport (not eligible for renewal)
  • Proof of identity (one of the following)
    • Valid driver’s license
    • Valid passport
    • Valid military ID
    • Certificate of naturalization
  • One recent color photograph
    • This service is offered at Squires Passport Office (see fees)
    • Must be 2x2 inches in size
  • Completed Form DS-11 passport application
  • Child must be present at the time of application
  • Both parents must be present at the time of application or
    • One parent may apply and submit a consent form signed and notarized by the other parent.
  • Proof of identity for both parents or applying parent (one of the following) 
    • Valid driver’s license 
    • Valid passport 
    • Valid military ID
    • Certificate of naturalization
  • Proof of U.S. citizenship for the minor (one of the following)
    • A certified copy of U.S. birth certificate
    • Certificate of naturalization
  • One recent color photograph
    • This service is offered at Squires Passport Office (see fees)
    • Must be 2x2 inches in size
  • Only adult passports can be renewed
  • Passports can be renewed up to five years after expiration.
  • Squires Passport Office does not process this application but will be happy to assist with information. This application must be mailed directly by the applicant to the passport office.
  • Completed form DS-82 passport application
  • One recent color photograph
    • This service is offered at Squires Passport Office (see fees)
    • Must be 2x2 inches in size
  • Current passport
  • If your name has changed since the issuance of your current passport, submit proof of name change (i.e. certified copy of marriage license, certified copy of court order, etc.)

  • This overnight delivery is from our facility to the passport processing center.

  • To request Expedited Service, pay the $60.00 fee in addition to the required fees noted above. Checks made payable to U.S. Department of State

  • The expedited fee is required for each application submitted.
Passport Book 1-2 Day  Return Delivery $19.53
  • To request 1-2 Day Return Delivery, pay the $19.53 for each application, in addition to the required fees noted above.
  • Please do not submit any prepaid return mailing envelopes or mailing stamps. Newly issued Passport Books are delivered via Priority Mail with Delivery Confirmation.
  • Only available for Passport Book applicants in the United States (not Canada). This service is NOT available for Passport Card applicants. Passport cards are sent via First Class Mail.

Virginia Tech U.S. Passport Acceptance Facility will be operating by appointment only. Appointments can be made online or by phone up to 24 hours in advance. A pre-appointment phone screening will be required to ensure an in-person appointment is necessary and that you have all necessary documentation before coming to your appointment.
